As part of a series of appointments, Labour South East are delighted to announce that all eight of Labour’s South East MPs have been appointed to roles on the Labour Party frontbench.
Following his election as Leader of the Labour Party, Keir Starmer announced last week that Oxford East MP, Anneliese Dodds was to be Shadow Chancellor. In further appointments announced over the weekend, South East MPs were appointed to a wide range of roles covering issues such as the environment, public transport and armed forces. The appointments made are as follows:
- Peter Kyle MP (Hove), Shadow Minister for Victims and Youth Justice
- Stephen Morgan MP (Portsmouth South), Shadow Minister for the Armed Forces
- Alan Whitehead MP (Southampton, Test), Shadow Minister for the Green New Deal and Energy
- Lloyd Russell-Moyle MP (Brighton, Kemptown), Shadow Minister for the Natural Environment & Air Quality
- Tan Dhesi MP (Slough), Shadow Minister for Railways
- Matt Rodda MP (Reading East), Shadow Minister for Buses
- Rosie Duffield MP (Canterbury), HM Opposition Whip
Speaking after his appointment, Tan Dhesi MP said he was: “Immensely honoured and humbled to have been appointed as the Shadow Railways Minister. Thank you very much Keir Starmer for having the trust and confidence in me, and I look forward to serving with Jim McMahon and the Labour Party Transport team.”
On his appointment as Shadow Armed Forces Minister, Stephen Morgan MP said: “I am hugely proud of our nation’s armed forces and the role Britain’s highly skilled workforce play in supporting them. I will be a strong national voice for our armed forces and challenging hard on the opposition frontbench on behalf of service personnel and the British public when the Government falls short.”
